Queen ants can live up to 28 years!

Ants are really remarkable social creatures. They form complex societies based mostly around workers and one reproductive specimen, known as the queen.
Although they're known as queen ants, they don't have any known authority or decision-making control. Their whole function is to reproduce.
Once a colony is established, the workers attend to the queen's any need including food and disposing of her waste.
Queen ants have a remarkably long life. In captivity, they've been observed to live for up to 28 years. That's one of the longest lifespans of any insect.
