When you're wealthy, you can do a lot of things that normal people cannot. Today, that means private jets and front row seats.

In the early 1900s, it meant, for at least one wealthy man, a carriage pulled by zebras. Oh how times have changed.

Walter Rothschid was born in London 1868 and was the heir of the international Roschild financial fortune. He was interested in animals from a young age and collected insects.

However, he reluctantly went to work at the family bank. While he never showed much aptitude for the profession, he forged on.

Eventually, seeing his unhappiness, his parents a zoological museum and funded it. Expeditions were sent out around the world to collect animals.

While Roschild was shy with people, he shone with animals. He once rode a giant tortoise and drove a carriage of six zebras to Buckingham Palace to prove that zebras could be tamed.
