Florida wants to reduce speeding using optical illusions!

Florida is trying out a simple optical illusion to slow down drivers on their high ways. What is this fancy plan? Painting the white lines closer together.

Why does this work? It's simple, people judge how fast they're going by how fast the white hash lines go by as they drive. If they're closer together, your eyes fool you into thinking you're going faster than you actually are.

Sounds cooky? Well, it isn't the first time they tried this and it worked the first time. In the 1990s, Florida tried it and drop of 1mph to 2mph on average. In other states, it's cut speeds by up to 5 mph.
