One of America's first serial killers built a death hotel where he'd trap and torture his victims!

H.H. Holmes became one of America's most notorious serial killers, after taking the lives of 27 (known) people, although reports estimate that he killed up to 100 men and women.

H.H. Holmes was able to acquire a deed to a drug store in Chicago after a windowed Mrs Holton gave it to him for a very cheap price, as she just wanted to stop running the drug store. When Holmes failed to pay Mrs Holton, she filed a law suit against him just before suddenly "disappearing".

Quickly, H.H. Holmes transformed this neighborhood drug store into a two story labyrinth that contained over 100 windowless rooms. In fact, when Holmes was building his 'castle' as it became known, he was constantly firing and hiring construction workers, so only he would know the layout of the building!

Over a very short time period, Holmes lured many unsuspecting men and women into his so called castle, where he would torture them through a variety of ways. One such way was that he would be able to slowly asphyxiate someone by leaking gasoline into the room they were trapped in over the course of several hours!

How did he hide he bodies? There were several trapdoors and compartments which were believed where he stored the bodies, and even cremated them! His disturbing building of torture was burned to the ground after his arrest.
