Have you ever ordered a package online and it has taken days, weeks, or even months to get delivered to your home? It turns out in 1959, the United States Postal Service (USPS) was able to make a significant advancement when it came to shipping mail in an orderly time frame.

'Missile Mail' as it has been named, has existed since about 1931 where it was first tested in an Austrian village. The idea is that the sender launches a missile with mail stored in some sort of compartment on the missile, and the mail is delivered in a timely manner.

Although this mail delivery system has had mixed results, in 1959, the USPS launched a would-be nuclear missile (they replaced the warhead with a compartment stored with faux mail) from a submarine. It only took 22 minutes for the mail to travel from New Jersey to Florida! The mail was quickly recovered and sorted at the nearest postal office as per usual.
