It would be nice if all your Apple products came with a lifelong service guarantee. Alas, that is not usually the case. For a few special products though, it is. In October 1997, Apple made changes to it's technical support policy. It stopped providing free live telephone technical support for the first 90 days of a product's lifetime. Instead, it offered support through it's website and an automated phone response system.
A class action lawsuit was brought against Apple that said it had promised a lifetime of live telephone technical support for it's products. While they maintained they did nothing wrong, Apple settled and agreed to either reimburse the owners of these products or offer them lifetime live telephone technical support. The products involved were manufactured and sold between April 1, 1993 and April 1, 1996.
