A woman almost lost custody of her kids because a DNA test showed the kids weren't hers!

Tetragametic Chimerism is not only perhaps the coolest name a rock band could ever have, but it is a rare occurrence that happens inside of a woman when she is pregnant. This process starts when two ova inside of a women have been fertilized by two genetically different sperm. The ovum then morph together, essentially merging two nonidentical twins together.

Since these two 'twins' have different sets of DNA, and then they fused together, they form a mixed set of DNA and can have different sets of chromosomes! This can result in a person having two slightly different colored eyes, different hair growth on each side of the body, and even having what is known as a 'hitchhiker's thumb' and a straight thumb!

A person who experienced this bizarre morphing inside of the womb is referred to as a chimera! And for the woman who almost had her children taken away because the DNA didn't match hers, doctors eventually found the DNA deep inside of her cervical tissue.
