2pac's "Dear Mama" is preserved in Library of Congress!
Tupac Shakur is 1 of 3 American rappers who have a song preserved in the Library of Congress, the other two being Grandmaster Flash and Public Enemy. The honored song is his 1995 hit “Dear Mama,” and was one of the 25 songs that were added to the National Recording Registry in the year of 2010.
The song is all about motherhood in the face of poverty and well worth a listen. The Library considered the song to be a “moving and eloquent homage to both the rapper’s own mother and all others struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty, and societal indifference.”
