Last summer, Renata Taneyeva woke up one morning, not knowing that her life was about to change.
She was driving around outside of her hometown, Austin, Texas, when she spotted something heartbreaking on the side of the road. Her decision to take action, rather than just keep driving, would change the course of her life forever.
This is Kyra, the dog who Taneyeva spotted limping on the side of the road. When she found her, the Alaskan Malamute was unable to put weight on one of her front paws.
The poor pooch was crying from pain, which made Taneyeva cry, too, because it was difficult to see such a beautiful animal suffer.
The number on Kyra’s collar wasn’t even connected to a landline, so Taneyeva took it upon herself to bring the pup to an emergency room.
There they found out that she wasn’t even microchipped.
In order to repair her fractured front leg, Taneyeva took out a loan. It was 150% worth it because…
At the emergency room, Kyra “started to realize she was being saved,” Taneyeva said.
Not long after her initial ER visit, Kyra needed a surgery to put a metal plate and pin into her leg, and another to take the pin out.
Since meeting her new mom at just six months old, Kyra has had her first birthday!
One she might not have had if Taneyeva hadn’t come into the picture.
Despite the fact that most Alaskan Malamutes love to chew on just about anything, Kyra isn’t interested. Deep down, she’s a big, old snuggler.
Not even bones coated in yummy peanut butter interest her.
Besides being a gentle, “crazy snuggle dog,” Kyra likes to go to the dog park with her mom when she takes her lunch break.
Conveniently, Taneyeva works at a construction company that is right across the street from her home.
Taneyeva remarked on finding Kyra to Dogs of Instagram, “I wasn’t planning on having a dog but she came my way for a reason and I honestly couldn’t tell you who rescued whom. She is my everything.”
Here they are celebrating Easter together!
There’s no metal left in Kyra’s leg anymore, as she’s had her final surgery.
“My resting baby. Soon you will be running faster than ever,” Taneyeva wrote on Instagram.
She’ll get back to puppy playdates in no time!
Clearly, “Everything happens for a reason in life,” says Taneyeva.
“Some things just fill your heart without trying.”
These two were simply meant to find one another and bring each other happiness!

It’s truly touching to see how much of a difference one person can make in an animal’s life. From limping and lost along a desolate Texas road, to living with a human who truly, 100% cares for and loves her, Kyra is finally experiencing the life all dogs deserve.
