She Paid Their Bill, So These Firefighters Did Something Amazing In Return

When New Jersey firefighters Tim Young and Paul Hullings finished a particularly long and grueling shift, they decided to visit their local diner before heading home. Upon their arrival, waitress Liz Woodward noticed that the two men were in low spirits.

To help cheer up the firefighters and show her appreciation for their service, the chipper waitress paid their bill. When they discovered her selfless act, the two men decided to return the favor in the best way imaginable.

Liz left the firefighters a lovely note telling them that the meal was on her.

“Your breakfast is on me today — Thank you for all that you do; for serving others and for running into the places everyone else runs away from. No matter your role, you are courageous, brave, and strong …Thank you for being bold and badass everyday! Fueled by fire and driven by courage — what an example you are. Get some rest!”

Young then posted the note on Facebook. It was then shared by thousands of people.

The firefighter told everyone to visit Woodward at the Route 130 Diner, and he said that people should tip well because of her excellent service.

The firefighters soon learned that Liz had a GoFundMe campaign set up for her father, who is a survivor of a brain aneurysm. They also shared this link on Facebook.

Due to his condition, Liz’s father is unable to leave their home. That’s because they’d need a special van to transport him comfortably, but they just can’t afford one.

Word about Liz’s father got around quickly, and her campaign to buy a van for her dad reached a wide audience.

She and her family are absolutely overwhelmed by these amazing acts of kindness.

Thanks to this young woman’s dedication to some upstanding firefighters and their appreciation of her kindness, Mr. Woodward is well on his way to a more mobile life. If you’d like to contribute to their cause, visit GoFundMe to learn more.

Woman Finds Yet Another Pair Of Dogs Stuck In A Car In Sweltering Heat

While on a jog on a hot day in New Jersey, People magazine reporter Diane Herbst was alerted by a pair of pups in a desperate situation.

Already knowing the weather outside was too severe to bring her own pooch on the trail with her, she was appalled to find these two cuties sitting in a locked car alone with the windows slightly cracked. She jumped into action, calling 911 multiple times and even considered breaking the windows herself to rescue the long-haired dogs.

After 16 stressful minutes waiting on the phone with the police, the fire department arrived to finally set the pups free.

Herbst shed tears of relief and placed a call to the number officials found on a card in the vehicle. She spoke to the negligent owner’s husband who explained the woman and her son were in the park searching for wild mushrooms and that he would inform them of the situation.

About 35 minutes after originally calling the authorities about the situation, the woman in question arrived with her son. The only problem? She was in no way apologetic, but instead upset and demanded to know why they had opened her door.

When officers asked her how she would feel locked in that situation, she simply huffed away and attempted to force water from her bottle into one of the dog’s faces, something Herbst captured on video.

Kevin Lynch, a spokesman for the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, told Herbst they were considering pressing charges and would be investigating the further welfare of the animals. You can read Herbst’s full report over on People Pets.

Even on days when the weather is perfectly mild, temperatures inside a big metal tube (aka a car) car can rise over 100 degrees in less than an hour. Cracking a window isn’t enough — you should simply never, ever keep your pups locked up like this. Ever.

If you need some cheering up, these animal stories should do the trick!

This Photo Looks Extremely Ominous Until You Realize What It Actually Is

On Monday, June 1, lifeguards on the beaches of Sea Girt, New Jersey, posted a strange photo to their social media accounts. There was the sand, there was the lifeguard’s chair, and there was what appeared to be an enormous wave heading right toward the shore.

Just look at this for a while and consider what would happen with a wave that size.

As it turns out, that enormous wave is actually an accumulation of fog. When a fog bank lines up with the shore like this, it makes for a pretty ominous image. Thankfully, it’s just a natural phenomenon that happens when warm air condenses over cold ocean water.

The National Weather Service in nearby Mount Holly released a satellite image shortly after, which shows how the fog was collecting against the barrier islands that make up the Jersey Shore.

But even knowing that it’s harmless, it’s still a pretty chilling sight.

If you didn’t know better, it could be a distant mountain range shrouded in mist.

I bet this would be pretty cool to watch from the boardwalk, but Jerseyites be warned: these guys usually come with clammier weather in toe, so bring a coat.
