His Methods May Be Obscene, But This Artist Is Getting Something Done In His City

You complain about that one pothole on your commute every day, but do you ever do anything about it? Most likely not. Sounds like a lot of paperwork, right?

One British artist has found a more efficient way of getting the holes filled in Greater Manchester: drawing phallic images around them. It sounds like vandalism, and it is, but what’s strange is that it seems to be working. It’s this pornographic activism that earned him the name Wanksy.

This isn’t a great image to look at, but that’s kind of the point.

Soon the city will get complaints from residents and while city workers erase the graffiti (Wanksy only uses non-permanent paint), they might as well go ahead and fill in the hole.

There’s no question that it’s crass, but it seems to be working.

Wanksy says that penises are perfect for this type of graffiti because they don’t take too long to draw.

The local government argues that these pictures are obscene, especially to the eyes of neighborhood children. One could also argue that so are dangerous potholes like as these.

So whether you’re a fan of Wanksy’s art or not, you can’t deny that it’s inspiring change. Makes you wonder how bad it must be that someone has to draw a penis on the pavement to get the government’s attention.
