Sesame Street's Cookie Monster used to be green and ate electronics! Find out more about this lovable scamp

The well known and rather loveable Cookie Monster from Jim Henson's "The Muppets" is probably most famous for his bright blue colour and voracious appetite for cookies, shouting "Me want cookie!" at any given opportunity.

But, the monster started out life as something rather different. Being one of three monsters designed by Henson for TV commercials, the Cookie Monster was originally green with large teeth and was known as the "Wheel Stealer." He made his actual TV debut in 1967 where he devoured a complex coffee making machine as the machine described it's various components.

The Cookie Monster was then included in the cast of the first Sesame Street show where he interfered with Kermit the Frog's famous "W lecture" by eating the W bit by bit. By now the Cookie Monster was blue and had lost his teeth, but was as yet unnamed.

During the rest of the first season of Sesame Street the Cookie Monster received his name and settled on mostly eating cookies, coining his now famous "Me want cookie!" mantra.
