You can only imagine the shock people felt when they saw this stunning and mysterious cloud looming over Costa Rica last week. The incredible scene was spotted on Tuesday afternoon in a number of cities including San Jose, Pavas, Escazu, Parrita and Hatillo. Incredibly, the cloud appeared in the sky on the country’s Independence Day.
People stopped in their tracks to take photo and video footage, and many took straight to social media to post the phenomena. Many were saying the clouds appeared to look like an ‘end of times’ scene.
Escazu resident Joey Petit told ABC News that he was at the playground with his family when his 11-year-old son noticed the clouds up in the sky. Joey said, “He immediately grabbed the camera and started taking video and photos. We were just so amazed. We had no idea what it was and we’d never seen anything like it.”
Everyone just wanted to know what was causing the unusual cloud in Costa Rica. People came up with all sorts of explanations for the cloud and light formation such as aliens, UFOs as well as a sign of God. Experts have since revealed the scientific explanation behind the rare sighting as a rare weather occurrence known as “cloud iridescence.”
It was this same phenomenon that caused the ‘fire rainbow’ that appeared over South Carolina last month.
