The Beatles are one of the most well-known and successful rock bands in the world. They hold numerous awards, including ten Grammys, an Academy Award, and the distinction of being the best-selling band in history.


Something else to add to the list? Civil rights activist. A contract for a show they played in California in 1965 clearly states that they wouldn't perform for a segregated audience—something that was unheard of back then! In fact, John Lennon was quoted as saying, "We never play to segregated audiences and we aren't going to start now. I'd sooner lose our appearance money."
