James Chadwick, the discoverer of the neutron, also helped produce many technologies during WWII contributing to the creation of the atom bombs, was a student of Ernest Rutherford, who discovered the proton and became known as the father of nuclear physics. Of course, Rutherford didn't gain his knowledge on his own. His teacher was none other than the esteemed J. J. Thompson, who is credited for discovering the electron.
History like this does not repeat itself often. Though they did not study all together, each one, alone or paired with another, helped to further the front lines of science in many different fields.
