When Harry Potter had to face the Deathly Hallows in the final film of the series, it wasn't actor Daniel Radcliffe that was taking the beatings and performing the stunts. David Holmes was Radcliffe's go-to guy for anything dangerous for the first six films—until it got a little too dangerous.
While rehearsing a scene for the movie in January 2009 that included flying and explosions (never a good combination in terms of safety), something went wrong. Holmes ended up plummeting to the ground, landing hard and injuring his spine. He remained conscious but commented that he couldn't feel his legs. He was quickly transported to the hospital.
The 25-year-old hoped to quickly return to work, but he realized he suffered a paralyzing injury and is now confined to a wheel chair.
Radcliffe only had nice things to say about Holmes, saying that Holmes is an "amazing gymnast" and is able to take on the high-risk stunts that he wouldn't dare do himself.
Despite not being able to finish the movie, Holmes is still credited as the stuntman for "The Deathly Hallows" film.
