Apparently, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg's trash can win Academy Awards. Find out how!

There's an old saying out there that says “one man's trash is another man's treasure.” Turns out that saying applies to old movie ideas from genius directors as well. Both the legendary Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese developed film ideas that they simply didn't want to pursue—so they swapped. They were both timeless hits.

“Cape Fear” was originally developed by Steven Spielberg but decided to abandon it because it was too violent. He talked with his buddy, Martin Scorsese, and decided to trade him for his developed holocaust movie that he decided not to make, “Schindler's List” (which apparently isn't too violent for Spielberg).

Spielberg stayed on the “Cape Fear” project as a producer but decided to turn down a credit on the finished film. It was released in November of 1991 where it was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Leading Role Actor and Best Actress in a Supporting Role. “Schindler's List” didn't do too shabby either when it was released in 1993—it won a total of 7 Academy Awards.
