The film Rain Man, starring Dustin Hoffman, is about a savant who is able to remember incredible things. Some think he is a genius, despite his lack of emotional maturity that prevents him from advancing in the world. By now, it's well known that a savant by the name Kim Peek was the inspiration for the movie Rain Man.
When Kim Peek was born, his head was 30% larger than normal at birth. When he was three months old, doctors discovered that Kim had a blister inside his skull that had damaged a part of his brain that controls language and motor skills. Doctors suggested that Kim should be institutionalized, but his parents refused.
When he was only 16 months old, Kim taught himself to read books. Amazingly, when he was 3 years old, his parents discovered he could read two pages of the newspaper at once! However, his mental brilliance wasn't without flaw—he was unable to walk until he was four.
When he was 7 years old, he had the entire Bible memorised!
