The Black Swallower fish can eat prey twice its own length and 10 times its weight
As their names suggest, the Black Swallower fish are ambitious about the size of their prey. While they only reach lengths of 10 inches, the fish they eat are much larger. And they swallow these fish whole - bones and all.
The Black Swallower can eat fish twice their size and 10 times their mass. Talk about biting off more than you can chew. Once the Swallower actually swallows their prey, it hangs in a translucent sac beneath their body as it is digested. They can be found in tropical and subtropical waters across the globe.
