Tax season is over, and we can all be thankful for that. Whether you take on the daunting task of trying to fill out your taxes by yourself, or whether you just hire an accountant or a friend to file your taxes for you, we can all agree that the United States Tax System is far too complicated.

If you're not from the United States, just know that anything that needs 73,954 pages to explain the proper procedures can't be simple.

Considering that just 100 years ago the Federal Tax Code was a manageable 400 pages, how did the modern tax code become so long? There is no easy, explainable answer. All that can be said is that the world became complicated, and your taxes became complicated as a result!

The largest growth in pages (based on the percentage of how many pages were in the Tax Code prior to the new one) happened immediately after World War II. In 1939, there were only 504 pages in the US Federal Tax Code, and in 1945, there were 8,200 pages!
