World Heavyweight Champ Feasts On 15,000-Calorie Nando’s After Shock Win

If you’d just become the Heavyweight Champion of the World, what would you do to celebrate? Buy a flash car? Go on holiday to the Bahamas? Head to a top nightclub or bar and get absolutely smashed (my preferred method of celebration)? Not if you’re Tyson Fury – that would be far too predictable for boxing’s new charismatic frontman.

Fury shocked the world by defeating Wladimir Klitschko on points to take the title on Saturday night, but instead of doing the traditional boxing celebration and spending big, Fury took a trip to Nando’s in Bolton for a celebration liberally doused in peri-peri sauce.

The mega feast – which came to just under £190 – amounted to 15,448 calories, six times the recommendation for an average male. His mammoth meal consisted of 16 double chicken wraps, five corn on the cob and six portions of chips.

Ahead of his official homecoming, Fury was pictured by fans enjoying his monster meal and kicking back – which he deserved after going 12 rounds with one of the greatest heavyweight champions of the modern era.

A source told The Sun: “He’s clearly taking some time off, but he’ll have to put in a serious training session to burn off the calories.

“He looked very relaxed, but other punters did clock who he was and took a couple of pictures.”

Another source said Fury was a ‘gent’ and was happy to sign her Nando’s napkin.

Despite enjoying the moment and more importantly his chicken, Fury has already ruffled feathers by claiming that he has no chance of winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year because he believes he is ‘too controversial and outspoken’.

“There’s no point me thinking about it. I’m not bothered. If I don’t win any award, I’ve never expected to win one anyway,’ said Fury but added: ‘Has anyone else beaten a super-champion this year? Taken him out? Taken away all his belts? Who’s done what?

“So Lewis Hamilton has won the F1 championship and Andy Murray has won the Davis Cup. Hamilton can win a race and it doesn’t mean anything. Murray can win a tennis match and lose a tennis match and still have his popularity. But who beat Wladimir Klitschko, the man they said couldn’t be beaten? Answer: Tyson ‘Too Fast’ Fury.”

When it comes to sportsmen, boxers are a different breed to everyone else, and in that respect Fury is right. The likes of Lewis Hamilton and Andy Murray compete at the highest level in their respective sports, but neither of them need that brash persona that boxers are forced adopt in order to psyche out their opponent.

One thing I do know for sure is, while Fury might not win SPOTY, I’m definitely not treating him to a cheeky Nando’s…
