Mother Shuts Down Shamers Who Called Her Out For Public Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding, some say it’s totally natural. The word on the (boobie) street is that it is incredibly beneficial for both the mother and child – it helps a baby fight infection and develop good bacteria. Although I’m totally up for it, there are many people who think the whole idea is pretty gross and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, societal prejudice has led to many women being held back by the fear of being judged in public, so one lady has taken a stand in their defence.

Mum Ashley Kaidel was given a serious case of the evil eyes by a fellow diner when she decided to breastfeed her son uncovered in a restaurant. Clearly she was pretty enraged by the public shaming and decided to share her frustrations with the internet.

The Florida mama concluded her post: “Signed, a badass breastfeeding (uncovered) mama.” Ashley highlights that it is not illegal for women to breastfeed in public and she is not afraid of voicing her opinion. Adding that it is “selfish” for others to expect mothers to exclude themselves from gatherings because it’s “feeding time.”

It would appear that the internet are hearing her loud and clear – the post has been shared over 122,000 times – and there are many people who think she is titally awesome:

However, not everybody is in Ashley’s corner, just like the woman who was staring her out “with disgust” in the restaurant.

Clearly Ashley doesn’t feel that new mums should feel ashamed or humiliated for trying to “sustain your baby’s life,” as she sees no difference in “me feeding a baby with my breast than you feeding yourself with a spoon” because “that’s the way babies eat.”

The 24-year-old is not about to cower away for what she believes is right. I suppose we have to admire her for that regardless of whether you believe her actions were correct or not.
