Most animal shelters are filled to the brim with dogs and cats in need of homes. There are many cases where the facilities are at consistently at capacity, forcing the shelters to turn away homeless animals. The Summit County Animal Control in Akron, Ohio, didn’t have to worry about capacity issues this month, though. In fact, they were faced with an entirely different “problem” — their kennels were empty.
They hosted their annual adopt-a-thon on November 7th…and, miraculously, every single animal had been adopted.
This is the kind of Facebook update you want to see posted by an animal shelter.
Friends, THERE IS NOT A DOG OR A CAT LEFT IN THE BUILDING!There are several dogs on stray hold but the adoption floor…

The Summit County’s animal control team has held an annual adopt-a-thon at its facility for the past six years. You might not think that an adoption event hosted by a county’s animal control department would be a hit…but people showed up in droves to take their new furbabies home.
According to the shelter’s director, Christine Fatheree, the people began lining up outside of the shelter at 6:30am. Once the event began, all 93 animals were adopted within two hours.
What makes this event even more special was an elderly couple who anonymously helped the animals find homes. The first 50 adoptions were sponsored by the couple who were unable to have pets of their own, but wanted to help families find the perfect companion.
Each of these dogs found homes during the Adoption Event on November 7th, 2015.
That’s a lot of happy faces!
The photos posted on Friends of Summit Country Animal Control’s “Happy Tails” are full of such joy. “Adopt, don’t shop” is a phrase that many people repeat and share online…but rarely act on. It’s amazing to see so many families welcome animals in need of homes!
Now, nearly 100 happy families have a new, adorable member in the mix.
Friends, another HAPPY TAIL!!!

Or, if you don’t have room in your home for a pet, find a local shelter where you can volunteer or make a donation!
