You Can Make A Welcome Mat Out Of Any Material You Want...Here's How

We’re all familiar with welcome mats…

They’re usually ugly.

Or just plain cheesy.

But rarely are they…well, welcoming.

That changes today because, as it turns out, you can make your very own welcome mat using any kind of fabric you want! It’s super easy, inexpensive, and will ultimately look way better than any other mat you might have crossed paths with prior to today.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Decorator-weight fabric, a rubber door mat, scissors, spray adhesive, a paintbrush, water-based polyurethane, an iron and ironing board.

Cut your mat down to however big or small you’d like it.

Measure your fabric, leaving about two inches extra around each side.

Iron the cloth to get rid of any wrinkles.

Spray the adhesive on the smooth side of your mat, put it on your fabric, and press down to smooth out any air bubbles.

Take the spray and cover the edges of the fabric. Wrap it over the mat and press on it.

Spray and then fold the corners over like you would wrap a present.

Let the mat dry for 30 minutes.

Finally, cover the mat with three or four layers of your polyurethane, leaving two hours of drying time between each coat.

And there you have a beautiful, custom, welcoming welcome mat.
