A bereaved husband found a unique way to pay tribute to his late wife by recreating photos they had taken together with their toddler daughter in her place.
Rafael del Col, 35, from Maringa, Brazil, lost his wife Tatiane Valques, 27, in 2013 when she was killed in a road accident. He wanted to do a tribute to Tatiane, so he and his three-year-old daughter Raisa recreated the couple‘s pictures together.
At the time of Tatiane’s death, Raisa still hadn’t reached her first birthday, and Tatiane was also pregnant with their second child at the time. The original pictures were done in 2009, a week before the couple‘s wedding. In the recreation of the solo shot, Raisa wore the same jewelry that her mother had used in the shoot. Even the dog that Rafael had bought for his wife-to-be when they had just started dating was included. The event was inspired by Ben Nunery, who did a similar shoot to commemorate his wife who died of cancer.
In one photo, Raisa grins as she wraps her arms around her father’s neck.
Rafael has also started a blog about his experiences. He writes: “Shortly after I lost my wife, I was seeking help regarding early widowhood and also paternity without the presence of the mother and found almost nothing. Now, thank God, things are adjusting slowly, my daughter is healthy, and is growing, developing normally.”
