When a pregnant cat finally had her littler, there were two surprises in the bunch. While three of the kittens were normal, totally healthy babies, two of them were unusually small. They were thought to have been deprived of oxygen, and would not be able to be safely placed in a home. However, the shelter that they were brought to had experience dealing with dwarfism in cats, and they were able to identify and address the problem properly.
This is Elfie. She’s the lady of this adorable duo.
This is Gimli, her brother.
Their adoptive mother was working at the shelter when they were being processed.
It was true love at first sight, and she decided right then to be their foster mom.
If there’s anything alright to fail at, it’s fostering, because it means these two tiny tots ended up with a forever home!
They now live happily with two dogs and another regular-sized cat.
While their condition most likely means they will have a shortened lifespan…
And that they suffer health issues, such as seizures…
Their life as it is now is full of love and affection.
Elfie and Gimli’s parents want to be clear that they did NOT shop for munchkin or dwarf kittens.
The whole family advocates for adopting over shopping in pet stores or breeding for traits that cause health issues.
There are countless pets up for adoption in shelters and rescue organizations around the world…
And the only way to help stop the overpopulation problem is to rescue from them.
True, Elfie and Gimli are adorable an deserve all the attention that they get!
But that doesn’t mean that others should search for designer cats that look like these two sweethearts.
Elfie and Gimli’s parents deal with their health issues every day, and there’s no telling how long their babies will live. That’s why they encourage you to check out your local shelter above all other options!
For more adorable updates on this furry fam, you can follow them on Instagram, Facebook, their website, or, Twitter. You can also donate if you want to help out with the siblings’ medical needs, but Elfie and Gimli are happy enough to spread the word about pet adoption. Sharing their story can do a world of good, as well!
