You Might Hate Melted Ice Cream, But This Artist Sees It As A Good Thing

It’s almost summer, which means it’s almost time for barbecues, the beach, and most importantly, ice cream. Though it’s hard to say anything bad about eating ice cream in the summer sun, it can still get pretty annoying when the heat starts to melt your tasty frozen treat. Although it might be hard to find someone who actually enjoys the taste of melted ice cream, artist Makoto Asano certainly enjoys playing with it.

The Japanese artist takes pints of ice cream and disposable wooden spoons and goes to town with his creations. Instead of getting upset at ice cream in its semiliquid form, Asano puts on a happy face…or faces.

Your tongue is a little weird, man.

This guy looks a bit sad.

Overall, Asano’s faces are pretty pleasant.

Some of them are just downright goofy.

Asano uses a multitude of flavors — including pints of Haagen-Dazs that are unique to Japan — to create his edible delights.

Asano uses the wooden utensil to carve intricate details, like this guy’s hair and beard.

This is probably the artist’s most lifelike ice cream creation.

And this might be his most mischievous.

To demonstrate a bit of his process, Asano provides a look at the pint before…

..and after!

According to Asano’s Instagram profile, his hobby is not making ice cream faces, but making people laugh. If you want to see more smiling ice cream faces, be sure to follow him on Instagram. This is one seriously fun way to beat the heat without an ice cream truck in sight.
