Every year in Yulin, China, there is a festival held that will have you sick to your stomach. It’s called the Dog Meat Festival, and people around the world are tying to stop it from ever happening again. Millions of dogs are slaughtered for meat in the country each year…yet there aren’t any reported production facilities specifically for dogs.
So what does that mean?
Sometimes, they’re still wearing their collars when they are killed to become someone’s meal.
Ten thousand dogs are killed for this festival each year.
Thankfully these two pups, Tom and Little Ricky, were recently saved.
Humane Society International was given the opportunity to rescue the pair right before they were slaughtered…
They also saved this kitty, who clung desperately to her cage walls as a much less fortunate friend fell victim to slaughter, right before her eyes.
Every life counts…and the Humane Society made it out with four animals — two cats and two dogs.
Little Ricky (named after actor and comedian Ricky Gervais, who is one of many celebrities who has spoken against this practice) and the two felines are doing well…
Unfortunately for Tom, who was so ill and traumatized from the experience, he passed a few weeks after he was rescued.
But at least he had a short time when he was surrounded by people who cared for him, unlike these unfortunate pups.
The whole thing is an atrocity. While it’s unlikely that this year’s group of animals will be saved before June 22…
There is hope for next year.

Tom, Little Ricky, and their feline companions are four among thousands of animals that needed rescuing from a terrible fate. If all you can do is offer two seconds to sign the petition, then you’ve brought this practice one step closer to an end. Think of those poor, helpless cats and dogs this June 22, and let’s all hope for a better future — it’s closer than you might think. In fact, 65% of certain regions of China completely disagree with the consumption of dog meat. It is not a cultural tradition, but rather the influence and push from the dog meat industry.
