Datta Phuge is an Indian businessman and it is safe to say he has got a ‘thing’ for gold. So much so that he put a third of what he's worth ($230,888,) into his most recent idea of a ‘gold investment.’ He had a shirt made for him out of solid gold!
Phuge hired 15 goldsmiths who worked for 15 days to complete the shirt. "After extensive research on the design and the look of the piece, I decided to give it an Armour-like appearance," designer Tejpal Ranka beamed. It is made of 14,000 gold flowerings that have been interwoven with 100,000 spangles sewn into a base of white velvet and features six Swarvoski buttons.
Datta already owns 10 gold chains, six bracelets and 25 rings, which all comes to about 22 pounds of gold. He wishes to still add a golden phone case to his 'bling'. "I know I am not the best looking man in the world," he says, "but surely no woman could fail to be dazzled by this shirt?"
His wife’s employer is not impressed! She works for the ruling National Congress Party who made this statement: “Our party does not approve of the vulgar display of wealth as being done by Datta Phuge.”
