"World Swastika Rehabilitation Day" is a real event. The reason it is celebrated may surprise you

World Swastika Rehabilitation Day (sometimes abbreviated as WORSED) was launched in 2010 by the leader of the International Raelian Movement (IRM).

The goal is to restore the symbol of the swastika to it's earlier meanings, which included peace and harmony. Although the swastika is a very ancient symbol, it's use as one of the symbols of Nazi Germany has obviously overshadowed whatever former symbolism it might have held for most people.

However, the intent of World Swastika Rehabilitation Day is to change the stigma that the symbol acquired during the 20th century. For instance, the swastika was used in America among the Aztecs, in Asia among Buddhists and Hindus, and in Europe among Celtics and Greeks.

Organizers hope to use these events for spreading what they consider a more informed and respectable image for the swastika. One of the ways in which that is done is by discussing what the swastika represents for different people. Among Raelians, for instance, it stands as a symbol of the infiniteness of time and the Universe.

Obviously, this is an issue that is bound to cause controversy. It seems everyone has an opinion to share on it. In past years, events have been held all over the United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, and in various European nations.
