Operation Northwoods: the time US authorities wanted the US to launch a terror attack on...the US? This story is shocking!

It's scary to know to the lengths to which people in power would go to start a war! Operation Northwoods, titled "Justification for US Military Intervention in Cuba (TS)," is a perfect example of the shocking and devious designs war-hungry politicians can think of. This operation originated within the Department of Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States government in 1962.

Cuba had just become communist under Fidel Castro, and several US officials wanted to create public support for a war against Cuba.

The TS proposal called for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and other operatives to commit acts of terrorism within US cities and elsewhere like bombing US military bases and hijacking civilian and military aircraft, and then blaming it on Cuban terrorists. The plan also included blowing up ammunition inside a US military base!

An excerpt from the proposal reads, "The desired result from the execution of this plan would be to place the United States in the apparent position of suffering defensible grievances from a rash and irresponsible government of Cuba and to develop an international image of a Cuban threat to peace in the Western Hemisphere."

This inconceivably dangerous plan that would place US citizens in danger was authorized by the Joint Chiefs of Staff! Luckily, President John F. Kennedy rejected it, and it was never put into effect.
