Los Angeles residents panicked when they saw something in the sky after a blackout. What it actually was will make you laugh!

Strange lights in the sky aren't uncommon. Shimmering stars, distant galaxies, and orbiting planets litter the night sky, ripe for study. But what happens when you live in a place with so much light pollution that you may have never seen the night sky for how it really is? Los Angeles residents barely see a single star among the shining terrestrial lights—until a blackout in the 1990s lead to some humorous results.

Because of light pollution, it's estimated that a whopping eighty percent of people have never seen the Milky Way. That is insane to think that something that is there every night, something anyone should be able to see if they look up, goes unseen.

Luckily, southern California experienced a massive blackout that revealed the naked night sky to thousands of people that had never seen it. This resulted in massive amounts of 911 calls with alarmed citizens reporting strange clouds hovering overhead. UFO? Strange weather phenomena? Government experiment? Nope, just that under-appreciated Milky Way.
