A study by MIT set out to discover what effects eating yogurt has on obesity. The people involved had learned about a long-term study from the Harvard School of Public Health, which indicated that yogurt, more than any other food, can keep weight gain at bay.

With curiosity, researchers wanted to see if those results could be found in mice too. The experiment was done with 40 male and 40 female mice. The subjects were initially fed stable diets, but then 20 from each group were additionally given vanilla yogurt.

The results of this experiment were a complete shocker, as is sometimes the case with these types of studies. One of the unexpected outcomes was that yogurt made the mice very shiny, because they had 10 times the active follicle density of the other mice.

It didn’t take long to notice another change in the male mice; their testes were sticking further outward and had become anywhere from 5-15% heavier than those of the males that did not eat yogurt. Not only that, but they had more success inseminating their partners, and they produced more offspring. Moreover, the females that ate yogurt had more pups and weaned them more successfully.

The results seen in these mice could hold promise for treating infertility in humans as well.
