Aksai Chin is a border area in China that has been disputed for years. The area is mostly occupied by Chinese residents; however, the land was originally claimed by India. No action has been taken just yet, but there is definitely tension near the border.
In June of 2006, a Google Earth user noticed a huge terrain model in China. The reason it caught his eye was because it was a model of a very mountainous terrain, but it was located in a very desolate area in China. After examining the image and rotating it, he was able to see that it was an exactly model of the mountainous borderline in Aksai Chin.
In addition, he was also able to see that the terrain model was next to a military base with lookout posts. Next to the base were several olive colored military trucks along with a garage. This started to provoke questions because of the borderline dispute. Was China getting ready to attack and claim the land?
It is customary for military forces to build these terrains for training purposes, but this is one of the largest ever spotted. The model's real measurements are 3000 feet by 2300 feet. Officials from the capital city, Ningxia, state that the model was built strictly as part of a tank training ground built in the late 1990's. The question is: are they telling the truth?
