Anthony Hopkins wasn't really a 'Breaking Bad' fan until late 2013, when he decided to do some marathon viewing and ended up watching from episode one of the first series to the last episode of the sixth series! He found it addictive. He was so in awe of the work, that he wrote an email to Bryan Cranston.
"I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant! Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen—ever. From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy," he wrote.
This is a huge compliment, considering that Hopkins is seen as one of the best actors ever. Hopkins started off with his compliment directed at Cranston, but continues to include the entire cast and crew by saying, "If you ever get a chance to—would you pass on my admiration to everyone—Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, R.J. Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada—everyone—everyone gave master classes of performance… The list is endless."
He describes the work as "artistry" and further says that it restored his confidence in the industry in which, according to him, there is much blowing of smoke.
