A 3 Musketeers candy bar is just one bar made of chocolate! How did it get its name?

Have you ever wondered how the chocolate bar 3 Musketeers got its name? It is because it used to contain three pieces — one chocolate, one strawberry and one vanilla flavored piece! That makes more sense now, doesn't it?

The chocolate-covered fluffy whipped chocolate bar was introduced in 1932. It cost five cents back then and was marketed as one of the largest chocolate bars available, one that could be shared by friends. Why has it changed? Rising costs and wartime restrictions on sugar during World War II saw the phasing out of the vanilla and strawberry pieces. By 1945 only the more popular chocolate was left and marketed under the same name.

In August 2007 Mars introduced 3 Musketeers Mint, the first brand extension, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the introduction of the candy bar. The company also introduced the limited-edition "Autumn Minis Mix" 3 Musketeers in 2007. The mix included French Vanilla, Mocha Cappuccino and Strawberry flavors.

The bars are made of a whipped nougat filling covered with milk chocolate. The nougat chocolate flavored center is first formed into very large slabs. They are then cut to size and coated with milk chocolate. It is then cooled and prepared for wrapping.
