Allan Swift was the focus of a chain email a few years back. The email had a picture of Swift with his 1928 Rolls-Royce Phantom I and claimed he had gotten it as a graduation gift and drove it until he died. There were a few off details, but this is one chain email that is mostly true!

Swift bought the car new and drove it for almost 77 years. He even received a crystal Spirit of Ecstasy award by Rolls-Royce Motors for holding the record of the longest ownership of one of their automobiles.

Before his death, he made arrangements to have the car taken care of and have his legacy taken over. He negotiated with the Springfield Museum to return the car to where it was originally built, as Rolls-Royce had a plant in Springfield when the car was made.

Two months before his death, Swift donated $1,000,000 to the museum to help purchase the Verizon Building which would be remodeled into a new history museum for the community. It is now open and holds Swift’s Rolls-Royce along with other cars and motorcycles.
