There are free-roaming carnivores like leopards in the city limits of Mumbai! How it happened is awesome!

Mumbai is an incredible and bustling city. Visitors have often said that the city does not only seem alive, it seems that the city is life itself. There are many things in Mumbai that will seem rather incredible to a first-time visitor, like the slums and shanty towns right next to multi-billion dollar mansions and hotels!

It has been said that a first visit to Mumbai is often a culture shock and quite thrilling. One of the very unique tourist attractions of the city is the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. This park is situated inside the city limits and divides the western and central suburbs, forcing millions of people to travel around the park from the one area of the city to the other.

Mumbai is the only city in the world to have a fully functioning national park with freely roaming large carnivores, within city limits! The National Park is a 104-square-kilometer park of protected forest and it houses about 5,000 insect species, 1,000 plants species, 250 bird species, 40 mammal species, 38 reptile species, nine amphibian species and ancient Buddhist caves going back to the first century.

Here leopards, deer, crocodiles, snakes, monkeys, tigers and lions roam free!
