Dominos is one of the most popular pizza chains around, but it seems the founders never imagined it would have started out that way. In 1960, brothers Tom and James Monaghan purchased a small pizza shop in Michigan for $975. James traded his half of the business for a used Volkswagen Beetle!
It seemed that Tom was still determined to make the company a success. He opened the Dominos Pizza franchise in 1965. He planned on adding a new dot to the logo after three stores were open in 1969, but quickly scrapped the idea as the franchise rapidly grew. The dots on the logo represent those stores.
It was definitely a good idea to keep the logo the way it is, since Dominos now boasts over 10,000 locations worldwide. Imagine trying to fit that onto their logo!
