More than 50% of people in Greece have never been on the internet. In fact, a large number of Europeans never have!

Internet access is seen by many modern governments almost as a basic human right these days. And who could blame them? The Internet has revolutionized the way we interact, do business, and to a large extent, the way we live our daily lives.

Thus, it might come as a bit of a surprise that in some developed countries in Europe, many people have never accessed the Internet — at all.

Take Italy for instance, not what one would call “third world” by any stretch of the imagination, but around 35% of their population that has never accessed the Internet. They only just beat out Portugal who boasts 33% of their population being disconnected. Other countries in Europe sit around 10% or below, with the EU average being 22%.

The average is somewhat skewed, however, by some of the more recent EU members who are still gaining their footing after being suppressed by the USSR for so long. Romania for one has a 42% disconnection figure, beating Bulgaria who sits at 40%

But, the country that takes the top spot is a bit of a surprise. Greece has a phenomenal 51% of its citzens never accessing the internet.Maybe most people in Greece would rather be down by the beach surfing real waves rather than surfing the Internet.
