Anyone who has listened to "Hips Don't Lie" knows that Shakira has a very unique voice. This voice has earned her millions of dollars and many a hit pop song. Her strong voice isn't everyone's cup of tea though. For starters, her grade school choir director wasn't a huge fan.
When she was young, Shakira realized she wanted to be a performer. At just four years old, she started belly dancing on a table in the middle of a restaurant. In grade school, she enjoyed singing for her classmates and teachers.
However, she was dismissed from the school choir because her vibrato was too strong. Specifically, her music teacher told her that she sounded "like a goat."
As a teenager, Shakira auditioned for and was signed to Sony Colombia Music. She recorded her first album at just 14 years old. Her career took off, and she entered the english market with her fifth album. She has won ten Latin Grammys and two Grammys and is currently a judge on popular reality TV show "The Voice."
