A woman committed suicide via lion!
In 1909, a play running at the Theatre Moncy featured Abyssinian lions in one of the scenes. The lion tamer was living with an unidentified woman and sources say that the two had been fighting earlier that morning.
During a performance, said woman went backstage to where the three lions were kept in cages. She deliberately stuck her arms through the bars and into a lion’s mouth. Before the stage manager could save her, she pushed in further and the lion grabbed and subsequently crushed her to death. The manager closed the curtains and actually told to the audience what had happened. The next day, the play was shut down and the lions were locked up at the zoo.
