Bill Murray was once arrested with 10 lb of marijuana in his possession. What is his opinion about legalizing it now?

Bill Murray is somewhat of a comedic legend. For his fans he is more like a mythological figure. He became known for his role in ‘Ghostbusters’ which was the highest-grossing film in 1984. He is now well-known to be almost impossible to get hold of for auditions and chooses his roles very carefully at his own leisure.

When he was recently asked about his opinion on whether marijuana should be legalized, he answered in typical Bill Murray style: “Well that's a large question, isn't it? Because you're talking about recreation, which everyone is in favor of. You are also talking about something that has been illegal for so many years, and marijuana is responsible for such a large part of the prison population, for the crime of self-medication. And it takes millions and billions of dollars by incarcerating people for this crime against oneself as best can be determined… I think the terror of marijuana was probably overstated.”

On 21 September 1970, Bill was arrested by police at Chicago's O'Hare Airport. His crime? Trying to smuggle 10 lb (4.5 kg) of marijuana, which he had every intention to use as an ‘alternative source of income.’ He was convicted and was later sentenced to probation.
